HP isn't the only PC maker beginning to make moves in this direction, but its recent efforts have been pretty impressive. And if they're paying attention to small details, it increases the likelihood that they're paying attention to bigger stuff, things that actually affect how the computer works. Maybe it doesn't matter all that much on an individual level-what do you care if someone else's laptop looks kind of like your laptop as long as you like how your laptop looks? But when a company uses the same general aesthetic across most of its lineup instead of changing things from year to year and model to model, it suggests that someone in the company is paying attention. HP was nice enough to send us a version of the laptop early for review, though-the hardware is final, though some of the drivers and the BIOS could change just a bit between now and release. The 1020 doesn't actually come out until February, and its lighter Special Edition counterpart isn't out until April. But it's also attractive and totally fanless, and there's a lot here that will appeal to people outside of the big companies you sometimes think of when you think "EliteBook" or "business laptop." It's got Intel's vPro tech, a dock connector, and other business-friendly features. The laptop, one of the first to use Intel's new Broadwell-based Core M chips, is part of HP's business-class lineup.
